A very useful class, but can be hard
Statics is the foundation of most of the mechanics type classes we take in aerospace. A lot of it was repeated information from previous years (even some of the physics from way back in highschool), but the course teaches new strategies for approaching those old situations. There are also some useful new concepts. The difficulty in this class was not the material, but the problems. Tests were difficult because the problems could be something you had seen before, but with a crazy twist. For this class, practice definitely makes perfect.
One important tip: figure out a method for taking cross products, and be able to do it quickly. If your professor lets you, use a function that comes on your calculator. I had a lot of difficulty on one test simply because I was doing these calculations the entire time. They're not hard, but time intensive. If your professor doesn't make you calculate cross products on tests, you're lucky. Moreover, know how to work with matrices quickly.
